Be yourself, dress as you normally would...preferably in something that makes you feel good.
With children, keep their clothes simple and soft. Try to avoid shirts with logos and writing. These things can distract from the picture. Babies in diapers or in the buff are always a classic. If you go with the diaper look, buy ones that have no logo or design around the waistband to keep things clean. Since Meredith avoids using props in most circumstances, (they can distract from babies and kids), turn the focus on the clothing. Hats, boots, bathing suits and sunglasses, tutu's or anything else that is unique will give your pictures a fashion twist and will just add to the editorial feel of the pictures. If you need help being inspired, just ask Meredith.
Shoots don’t always have to take place in a studio setting, they can be at farms, orchards, the beach, a garden, or an old abandoned factory. The possibilities are endless!
Think about what time of day is best for your small children. Don’t book a session during nap time or a feeding time. Bring a few outfit changes is you wish. This will give you more diversity when selecting your prints.
If you are doing a family portrait, choose colors that blend nicely, for instance, green and brown or blues and pinks. This can add great dimension and unity to your photographs.
Most importantly, let’s have fun!
